Insurance companies are now sending drones to take pictures of trees in close proximity to homes of their policy holders. If there’s any possibility that a branch could touch your roof, you may receive mail with the following message: “You must cut back your trees within 1 month or we will drop your policy.”
Getting rid of any possible sign of neglect is not a bad thing. Getting branches off your roof is a good thing. The bad thing here is the timing. Pruning is best done in the dormant season (Nov-Feb in AR).
Pruning in the dormant season (when trees aren’t actively growing) has a lot of perks. It helps stop diseases and pests from spreading, makes it easier to see the tree’s shape, and sets the stage for strong new growth in spring. Since there are no leaves in the way, you can easily spot dead or diseased branches and trim them out without putting extra stress on the tree. Plus, the cuts heal up faster this time of year.
Don’t wait for you insurance company to put you on the clock. If you have branches near your roof, call for a free estimate.
